State Rep. Steve Carra, Chair of the Michigan House Freedom Caucus, called on Wayne State University to take action after a professor demonstrated inappropriate political rhetoric.

Professor Steven Shaviro, of Wayne State University, has been suspended with pay after publishing a Facebook post earlier this week calling the murders of conservative speakers on college campuses admirable.

“I think it is far more admirable to kill a racist, homophobic, or transphobic speaker than it is to shout them down”, Shaviro penned.

State Reps. Steve Carra (R-Three Rivers), Jay DeBoyer (R-Clay Township) and fellow Republican colleagues signed onto the below letter, condemning this rhetoric, and urging the university to take further action against Shaviro. The letter was sent to Julie Miller, Vice President, and Secretary to the Board of Governors to WSU.

“This rhetoric is completely inappropriate in any setting – let alone our classrooms,” Carra said. “Such inexcusable and vulgar behavior must be further investigated by the university.”
