State Rep. Ron Robinson, R-Utica City, this week continued his record of service by taking the oath of office as the next State Representative for Michigan’s 58th House District. After having served as a Marine Corps veteran, a Utica City Councilman, and a Police and Fire Pension Board member, Robinson has already hit the ground running in his new role representing parts of Shelby Township, Warren, and Sterling Heights, as well Utica City.
“I am looking forward to working with my colleagues to bring common sense and problem solving back to Macomb,” Robinson said. “Michigan families have real concerns about public safety and the cost of living. The way I see it, the mission before me is simple: listen, gameplan, then deliver. The people of the 58th District need a strong voice in Lansing, and that is what I will be.”
Robinson was yesterday appointed to serve on the Select Committee on Protecting Michigan Employees and Small Businesses, a special committee formed to address urgent issues plaguing employees and business owners in Michigan’s restaurant industry due to a Michigan Supreme Court decision last summer. The decision places unrealistic mandates on small businesses regarding wages and sick leave while phasing out the tip credit, which many small business owners have said will result in significant layoffs and potential closures without the Legislature’s immediate intervention.
“As a small business owner, I know firsthand how hard it is to keep your business afloat, particularly when you’re new and trying to get things off the ground. This decision will result in disaster if it is not addressed as soon as possible. That is why we are already working on legislation to provide commonsense solutions that protect our small businesses,” Robinson said. “Being assigned to this committee is an opportunity to provide vital relief to my residents. It’s the start I was hoping for and it’s just the beginning. I encourage anyone in my district to reach out to my office to share any concerns they may have or issues they need help with.”
