State Rep. Greg VanWoerkom (R-Norton Shores) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2024 State of the State Address on Wednesday:

“The economic programs put forth by the governor today prove that jobs aren’t growing in Michigan, and Democrat policies passed this year are to blame. They have stripped away the fundamentals of low energy costs, competitive tax structure, and available talent.

“We need to get back to the basics and create an economic environment that appeals to all rather than the politically expedient.”

Rep. VanWoerkom is the Republican vice chair of the House Tax Policy Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor and Economic Opportunity. He helped craft several state budgets prior to 2023, putting great emphasis on eliminating barriers to economic growth. He was also named the Small Business Association of Michigan’s 2023 Legislator of the Year.
